things changed in 10years

1. every japanese people are now (seems to be) able to use english suddenly (why?). 10 years ago, we imply we cannot use english. but now we imply we can use english (except fraud-ish english school ads).
2. house-wife is not an explicit prior choice anymore. maybe still implicit prior choice though. but lots of boys are now avoiding girls who want to be a house-wife. i'm really surprised when i see old movies or magazines. i can't remind how the girls were.
3. everyone uses PC and network. Programmer became an ordinary job for ordinary people. only 10years ago, using PC is still a weird thing.
4. modern "cafe"s were not really existed only 11 years ago. the first 'cafe des pres' was opened in 1994. now cafes are mutated to 'asian cafes', 'deli cafes', etc... those are so cool-and-pretty-ish and clearly symbolise modern japanese girl's culture (such are rarely seen outside of japan).

hmm, please add your instance of changes (in japanese or english). thanks.

As a person who's been surrounded by computers for more than 15 years, I'm not sure using PC was such a weird thing 10 years ago. At least it was usual to see a few PCs in offices. Networking was much less common, however. I rememeber when we saw NCSA Mosaic first time---it was 1993 or 1994, I think---we talked feverishly that it would change the world.

House wives? Most female friends in my high-school days didn't thought to be house wives, so I think it's longer trend than 10 years. (They might have felt friction between their thought and older generation's, though).

Social view to the video games has been changed drastically. 10 years ago, Playstation and Sega Saturn were launched. At that time, it was not very common that somebody with PhD worked at video game developer. I remember the faculty administration staff were surprised when I told them I'd work for one.

I don't know if it's a global trend, but I'd be surprised back then if I was told that quite a few friends of mine (and myself) would live outside Japan in 10 years. The Internet did make foreign countries much closer.

Thanks for your comment!

10years ago, I was quite young and not socially active, so my point-of-view was not wide. So, my ideas about house wives or computers are perhaps created by media (TV drama, etc..).

marriage needs to be added something more than love these days, she would obviously refuse to become someone else's if that marriage take something away from her status quo, same as you guys!!

i guess the attitude of parents towards their children (or child - most of couples have only one kid). people used to tame their children well (in a very strict manner), but nowadays i see parents who let their children do whatever they like (even if it annoy neighbors, rude, or incorrect wrt morale standard) in many occasions.
